Great result thought. O'Shea, Dunne and St.Ledger are good. Lawrence has a bit about him and Fahy has a touch of class. Robbie wouldn't finish his dinner, but Doyle is a great piece of work.
Still though need to get some better players into the team to qualify. Even Coleman and McCarthy alone would improve them massively.

I am a big fan of McCarthy but can't see him getting his place in the middle of midfield for Ireland under Trap, too much of a ball player/attack minded for his liking.....
That is a good three points alright, worth remembering Spain were fortunate to get a 2-1 win there in the WC qualifying...Hughes seems to be a fan of Stephen Kelly at Fulham while Foley is playing more often than not for Wolves, wouldn't mind seeing either getting a run at right back V andorra with O'Shea moving across.....Coleman looks a prospect alright, won't be long til he gets ahead of Hibbert at Everton
Thought Keane did well tonight considering...he should have scored but was our main attacking threat and his movement was excellent and caused Armenian trouble all night, Doyle and Lawrence were excellent in terms of their attitude and workrate while Dunne and St Ledger were solid apart from a scramble in teh box and a near OG they mainly threatened from long range

Very good result, lawrence was well worth man of the match. Always gives his all for Ireland and has a bit of guile about him. Hard to understand why Stoke were so keen on unloading him. But fuck me Kilbane, he's fooking brutal, everytime they attacked that side it could have been a goal. There has to be someone else

I'm with ncc here, i'm no major fan of Robbie, but he is a better goal scorer than Doyle, by a nice bit. He used not work hard enough for me in the past and was a terrible moaner, but all that has depitated a fair bit.
I like Doyle too, but i do tend to laugh when people say he'd be one of europes top players if he scored more goals, is that not his main job?

Listen buddy, you have already been shown up on your opinion on Gibson where you said that he was good against Bayern even though you said at the time that you didnt even watch the match.
So in future don't bother offering one.

I do find it mildly amusing that Rock continues to put it on his avatar. The ability to record a match and watch it in full later wouldnt exactly be groundbreaking stuff. Anyway whatever keeps ye warm at night.....
good to start off with three points, to be honest dropped points here would have been a disaster. Didnt get around to seeing the game in the end. Paul Green seems to have been found out which I suspected might happen. We have huge problems in terms of squad depth and players playing reserve football but the likes of Cunningham, Gibson etc should start against Andorra and ensure we have 6 points before we meet the better sides.
If ever there was a player that got better with each game he doesnt play it is James McCarthy. He wouldnt improve us at the moment and probably never will. He plays occassionally for one of the worst teams in the EPL and is a luxury player at best and at worst a total passenger with zero pace or presence. His commitment to his country is debatable too with pulling out of summer friendlies to go on the piss. He wouldnt be an option centrally against decent sides and is too slow to play out wide. From my viewings of the EPL last season Keith Fahey seemed a better player and I'm delighted he made a mark last night. Some turnaround from playing League of Ireland not so long ago. Coleman may come through but it will be tough with Phil Neville in front of him. Moyes seems to have a blind spot when it comes to Tony Hibbert who is one of the worst players in the EPL but you would hope Coleman would pass him out anyway. Duff, Andrews and Hunt were missing too which are significant losses for a squad as small as ours. But if one of Dunne, O'Shea, Whelan, Keane or Doyle are missing against any semi decent team we would be badly struggling.
Hopefully our players will play themselves into better form at club level by the time the next fixtures come around.
On another note - looks like Aiden McGeady is heading for 40 caps and 0 goals.

Villa's Clark declares for Republic of Ireland
Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:10
Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark has pledged his international future to the Republic of Ireland - to repay his mother and father for the support they have shown in him.
Clark, who played 78 minutes of last Saturday's goalless draw with Chelsea, was born in London and has captained England Under-18s.
But he has decided to commit to playing at senior level for Giovanni Trapattoni's side as an act of faith for the backing he received from his Irish-born mum and dad.
Clark told Press Association Sport: 'Why have I chosen to play for Ireland? For myself and my family.
'My family have done a lot for me over the years, since I was a little boy. I owe them a lot so I've made this decision for them.
'Richard Dunne (Villa and Ireland defender) mentioned it to Ireland and they looked into it and got in contact with me and the club. They gave me time to think about it and about my decision.
'If all the paperwork has gone through by the next game, I'll be in contention so fingers crossed that happens.'
Clark, regarded as one of Villa's brightest prospects, added: 'I was England Under-18 captain but I didn't think I was going anywhere really with that.
'When a young lad gets an opportunity like this, it is hard to turn down.'

It'll be a huge benefit to him to be playing under one of the greatest managers in the game also. Great news is right Puke.
